The Allan Herschell Companies were an important part of the local economy and community in the 19th and 20th centuries. Celebrate the carrousel’s legacy in the Tonawandas by learning about the artistry and engineering of these beautiful historic machines. Tour the museum’s exhibits of antique carrousel animals, see woodcarvers at work, hear the familiar strains of the band organ, and take a ride on the 1916 #1 Special carrousel. In celebration of New York Heritage Weekend the museum is offering free admission to all visitors and a variety of fun craft activities for kids inspired by the carrousel and other Herschell rides.
